Episode 1: Three Website Mistakes You Might Be Making (And How to Fix It!)

3 Website Mistakes You Might Be Making (And How to Fix Them!)

Website Mistake #1: you're not taking your customer on a clear journey

I want you to ask yourself, “What does my client or customer need to know if they’ve never been introduced to my product or service before? What would they need to know about me or my product or service before they would actually buy?

When writing your website copy, you need to speak very clearly to what pain points your customer has. What are they struggling with? What do they want? What do they need more of? Then ask yourself how your product or service is going to help with that.

I also want you to ask yourself, what are the first three things that you want someone to see or do when they visit your website?

  • Do you want them to read your blog?
  • Do you want them to check out your freebie?
  • Do you want them to learn more about your product or service?

What is that journey that you want your client to go through? How are you going to take them from never knowing your product/service before, to trying to learn more, to paying client or customer that loves you and is always going to come back to your product or service?

Website Mistake #2: You don't have a clear call to action

You have to help your clients and customers and hold their hand through the entire process.

You also want to give them directions repeatedly.
This means putting a button to your services, your products, your shop, etc multiple times throughout your site.

If you only have that call to action once on your page and your potential customer misses it, they’re not going to know where to go and you don’t want them to have to scroll all the way back to the top of your page just to click on your services, shop page, etc.

It’s very important to have a clear call to action, showing them where to go next throughout the whole page.

You also don’t want your potential customers to have to go through a bunch of different steps to purchase from you. You want to send them on a direct route to your services or shop page, and then in that page show them exactly how they can purchase a product or service from you.

Ask yourself –

  • Do they have like five steps they have to go through in order to work with you or purchase from you?
  • How do they start working with you if you offer a service that they need?
  • Do they have to try to find your email and then send you an email and then you send them back some times that work for you to see if it works for them?

My rule of thumb is that if it isn’t abundantly clear what you want your potential customer to do on your site, they’re not going to purchase. It has to be really clear and simple for them to do.

Website Mistake #3: You talk about yourself, not your ideal client or customer.

If you’ve never read the book “Building a Story Brand” by Donald Miller, I highly recommend it. In this book, Donald talks about how the client or the customer is a superhero.

Remember, you are not the superhero. You’re not going to come in and change your customer’s life for them. They have to implement what you’re offering. No one is going to do that for them.

You are the guide. Your customer is the one who is going to be saving the day, doing the awesome things, changing their life. You are simply the guide helping them get to where they need to be to change their lives in some sort of way.
