My Brand and Web Design Process

Have you ever wondered what’s involved when working with a brand and website designer? It’s a big step to invest in this part of your business, and if you’ve never worked with a designer it’s hard to know what to expect. In this post, I’ll be sharing a look inside my brand and web design process to help take away some of the uncertainty.

Quick Disclosure: This blog post contains affiliate links, which means when you click the link to purchase something on this page, it won’t cost you more but I may receive a commission for sharing it with you. Which is great, because I was going to share it with you anyway!

My Brand and Web Design Process
My process is broken down into two main parts – brand design and website design. It is then broken down into five stages: pre-work, brand development, brand identity design, WordPress website design, and project wrap up.

Pre-Work Stage – preparing for the brand and website design, including my Brand Clarity & Website Design Questionnaires.

Brand Development Stage – determining the concept and direction for your brand that will speak to your ideal clients.

Brand Identity Stage – creating the main logo, color palette, alternative logos, sub marks, and typography pallet

Website Design Stage – content (copy and images) integrated into new site; design of WordPress website; branding elements for each page; and design of six pages based on content and design elements.

Project Wrap Up – design of final Brand Style Guide to showcase all the brand elements; preparation and delivery of final files.

pre-work

STEP 1 – INQUIRY

If you’re interested in working with me on your brand and website design, fill out my brand & website design inquiry form and tell me more about your business, your goals, and any additional details you might have.

STEP 2 – BOOK

After Inquiry, I’ll respond to you within 1-3 business days with more details, open start dates and more. If you decide to move forward, you’ll receive a contract and invoice for the 50% deposit to secure your spot in my calendar.

Brand Development

STEP 3 – HOMEWORK

After the first invoice is paid and a contract is signed, I’ll send you my Brand Clarity & Web Site Design Questionnaires where you will dig deep into the heart of your business to build a strong foundation for your brand. Also, you can create your own shared Pinterest board of inspiration made up of color palettes, texture, patterns, design elements, and any images that capture the aesthetic of the brand you’re striving to create.

STEP 4 – BRAND & CONCEPT DESIGNS

Once your Brand Clarity Questionnaire is complete, it’s time to start the inspiration process. After reviewing your homework, I’ll begin coming up with a concept and direction for your brand. I’ll present my ideas for the overall aesthetic of your new brand, through a visual mood board. All of this is based on what you have provided through your branding worksheets, so in many ways I’ll be reiterating the heart behind the work we’re doing, establishing the direction in which we’re moving, and making sure we’re moving forward with a united vision.

You will have the opportunity to make edits and revise anything you see on the mood board in order to make sure we’re working with the perfect visual inspiration for what comes next – the design process!

brand Identity Design

STEP 5 – LOGO & COLLATERAL DESIGN

Now that the visual inspiration for your brand is represented perfectly through your mood board, we’ll move onto designing your brand identity! I will create a complete brand identity including your main logo, alternate logo, sub marks, coordinating graphics and collateral pieces…everything! Your entire brand will be presented to you all at once so you can see your new brand in full context. I have found when you see your entire brand at once, you can see how each individual piece works to complement the next. You will have the chance to revise and make any necessary changes to ensure we’re moving in the right direction.

WordPress Website Design

STEP 6 – CONTENT

Before I start designing & developing your WordPress website, I’ll need finalized copy and images for all pages of your new site. You’ll upload your content into our shared Google Docs and your photos will go into our custom website Trello board. If you require some assistance with creating your copy, I have some handy cheat sheets to help you out!

STEP 7 – WEBSITE DESIGN ELEMENTS

Before and during designing the five pages of your website, I’ll create additional website design elements to complement your site. They can be simple icons/illustrations, call to action buttons, image holders, dividers, hello or email signatures.

STEP 8 – UP TO 6 PAGES DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

Based on your content and the design elements I created, I’ll design and develop your new site. They can be any pages of your choice, like Home, Blog, About, Contact, Services etc. Since I use the Elementor page builder to design your site, it will be one-of-a-kind! No design templates used here!

project wrap up

STEP 9 – BRAND STYLE GUIDE

To finalize the brand and web design process, I will create a Brand Style Guide PDF that you can keep forever. This will be an invaluable resource for you to stay consistent in your brand identity and brand message after our work together is done. This will include all color palette codes, typography palette, a how-to guide on the use of each design element, your brand message – everything we worked so hard to create!

STEP 10 – DELIVERY OF FINAL FILES

Once you approve your brand identity, brand collaterals and WordPress website design, I’ll start prepping your final files both for website, social media, and print usage. I’ll send them via our shared website board. I’ll also include custom tutorial videos that will give you a walk-through on how to use your new WordPress website.

STEP 11 – LAUNCH

Now it’s time to share your new brand and website with the rest of the world! I will send you a custom graphic to announce the launch of your new website. Upload your new brand and website on your social media profiles.

I hope this breakdown has helped answer some questions you may have about working with a brand and website designer. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me!
