Episode 14: Where Should You Get Your Website Domain From?

In last week’s episode/blog post, I explained what a website host is and which website host you should use. But you may be wondering, “okay, then what is a website domain?”

In this episode of the Business Website Blueprint Podcast,  I’m going to be sharing where you should get your website domain from, as well as what a website domain is.

Quick Disclosure: This blog post contains affiliate links, which means when you click the link to purchase something on this page, it won’t cost you more but I may receive a commission for sharing it with you. Which is great, because I was going to share it with you anyway!

What is a Website Domain?

Back in episode 13, I used the analogy of a house to help explain what a website host is. I’m going to use that same analogy today because I think it’s a little bit easier to understand all of the tech pieces that go into your website.

So if your website host is the foundation of your house that you build your walls on, your website domain is the address that people would type in in order to find your website.

For example, if you’re trying to go to Facebook and type in facebook.com, you just typed in their domain name. This is the name that you type into a search bar to find someone’s website, and it usually ends in .com, .org, or a few others.

Where Should I Get My Website Domain?

You can purchase your website domain from hundreds of different companies. However, the easiest way is to purchase it through your hosting provider. This way you don’t end up with a ton of different logins for different platforms that you have to try to remember.

When you purchase your website hosting, they’ll have the option to also purchase your domain at the same time. A lot of times the hosting company will include the cost of the domain for free for your first year. After that, it’s typically about $20 for your domain every year.

Which Website Domain Company Do You Recommend?

Just like I mentioned for your website host, I also recommend getting your website domain from Bluehost or HostGator. They have great customer service and amazing pricing options that you just can’t beat!
